The Mississippi River is one of the greatest rivers of North America, filled with beautiful landscapes and unique experiences. But when it comes to the question of lighthouses, do they exist along its banks? Let’s explore the answer.

Lighthouses are typically found near the coast in order to guide ships at night and warn them of any dangers. However, the Mississippi River is not a part of the ocean and so it may seem unlikely that lighthouses are present along its banks.

Historically, lighthouses were only placed in areas where there was a need to illuminate ships. The Mississippi River is the second-longest river in the United States and is not near the ocean. Because of this, the need for lighthouses along the river was unnecessary since most river traffic took place during the day.

However, there have been attempts to implement lighthouses on the Mississippi. In the late 1800s, the US government approved a plan to build lighthouse towers in select locations on the Mississippi River. They were intended to provide lighting to guide steamboats and other river vessels. Despite much effort and construction, none of these lighthouses were ever completed and the project was abandoned.
