Closure of Mississippi River Bridge

The Mississippi River Bridge, originally constructed in 1966, underwent a series of renovations and upgrades in recent years. However, it was forced to close down due to structural issues as reported by the authorities in June last year. This closure of the bridge has been an inconvenience to the locals and a cause of much concern for experts.

As per the reports from the Department of Transportation, the bridge was already in a state of disrepair before the closure. With further inspection about the damage, it was found that the main corridor of the bridge had developed cracks that required repair, along with other damages. As a result, the bridge was declared temporarily unsafe and hence it was closed down indefinitely.

Since the closure of the bridge, it has been almost a year now, and there is yet to be any news regarding the reopening of it. According to reports, the repair work is still underway and will take another year to be completed. In the meantime, the locals are left without any means of transport through the bridge, leading to hardships and a lot of time and money being lost in taking alternative routes.

Experts have already voiced out their concern and criticism about why the bridge was allowed to deteriorate to such a point, for which an in-depth investigation is being carried out. Furthermore, it has been also speculated that the closure of the Mississippi River Bridge is taking longer than usual due to particular sections of the bridge being more damaged than expected. All these reasons further complicate the repairs and the reopening of the bridge.
