The Amazon has a huge amount of river monsters. Anacondas, caimans, piranhas and jaguars all call this place home. Years ago, Jeremy Wade travelled here looking for the arapaima, a 10-foot long fish that has been known to ram predators with the force of a car crash.<\/p>\n

The Amazonian Manatee is a gentle giant and a herbivore, eating up to 150kg of aquatic vegetation per day. It is an important part of the Amazon ecosystem, eating plants which would otherwise choke the waterways, and in turn being eaten by predators such as the anaconda. The Amazonian Manatee is a shy creature and is under threat from habitat loss and hunting, with only a few thousand individuals remaining in the wild.<\/p>\n
