Bridges are important engineering structures that are built to span physical obstacles like a river, valley, or road, and provide a connection between two points. The Amazon River is one of the largest rivers in the world, and spans a distance of over 6,400 kilometers. As of 2016, there are a total of 27 bridges that cross the Amazon River.

There are approximately 1600 bridges crossing the Amazon River.

Are there really no bridges over the Amazon river?

There are no bridges across the entire width of the river because the river is so wide. For most of its length, engineers could build a bridge across the river easily, but for most of its course, the river flows through the Amazon Rainforest, where there are very few roads and cities.

The Amazon is one of the longest rivers in the world, with over 1,100 tributaries. Of those tributaries, 17 are longer than 930 miles (1,500 kilometers) long. The Amazon basin (the area drained by the river and its tributaries) covers over 2.7 million square miles (7 million square kilometers), making it the largest river basin in the world.
