Overview

Avalon Cruises, a travel agency specialising in riverboat tours, was a leading provider of Yangtze River voyages in China. Situated in some of the world’s most spectacular and culturally-rich regions, Avalon Cruises provided tourists with a unique experience. Launched in 2008, the cruise line quickly established itself as a market leader, offering a range of services and amenities that were unrivalled in the industry.

However, in recent years the company has been facing financial difficulties, and in late 2019 the operations of the company were stopped by the Chinese government.

Economic Problems

The economic issues that had led to the difficulties of Avalon Cruises were compounded by a number of factors. Firstly, the company suffered from an oversaturation of the cruise market in China, with a large number of competing providers, many of whom offered cheaper or better-value packages than Avalon Cruises. This undermined the company’s financial position, as it was unable to compete with the low prices of its competitors.
