The Amazon, for much of its 4,300-mile (6,920 kilometers) length, meanders through areas that are sparsely populated, meaning there are very few major roads for any bridge to connect to. This makes it challenging to build a bridge across the Amazon, as there would need to be a road leading up to the bridge on either side.
