At over 6,400 kilometers (4,000 miles) in length, the Amazon River is the world’s largest river by discharge volume of water. It is also the largest river in South America. The Amazon River is the largest river in the world by volume, with an average discharge of around 209,000 cubic meters per second. The Amazon basin covers an area of around 6.7 million square kilometers, or roughly one-fifth of the total area of South America.<\/p>\n

The river system is home to a diverse range of plant and animal life, including several thousand species of fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds. Human activity has also had a significant impact on the river, with large-scale deforestation and pollution from mining and agriculture posing a threat to the ecosystem.<\/p>\n
