The Ucayali–Marañón confluence is the point at which most geographers place the beginning of the Amazon River proper. In Brazil, however, the river is known at this point as the Solimões das Águas. This is because the Marañón River, which meets the Ucayali River at this confluence, is actually the larger of the two rivers.<\/p>\n
