The Amazon River is not saltwater.

Is the Amazon river salt or freshwater?

The Amazon River is an important source of fresh water for many countries in South America. The river flows at an astonishing rate of 209,000 cubic meters per second, making it the second longest river in the world. The Amazon River is a major source of transportation, recreation, and economic activity for the countries it flows through.

The Amazon is home to three types of river: Blackwater, Whitewater and Clearwater. Blackwater rivers are typically dark in colour, due to the presence of tannins and other dissolved organic matter. Whitewater rivers are usually light-coloured due to the high amount of sediment suspended in the water. Clearwater rivers have little to no dissolved organic matter or sediment, and are typically crystal clear.
