The Amazon River is the world’s second longest river and is located in South America. It is also the largest river by discharge of water in the world. Some other interesting facts about the Amazon River include: it has over 3,000 species of fish, it is home to the world’s largest rainforest, and its basin covers over 40% of South America.<\/p>\n

1. At about 6,400 km (4,000 miles) long, the Amazon is the second longest river in the world, after the Nile.<\/p>\n

2. It carries more water than any other river – so much that it could supply all the fresh water needs of the United States for almost 40 days.<\/p>\n

3. It is up to 16 km (10 miles) wide at some points.<\/p>\n
