The Congo River is the world’s deepest river, with depths exceeding 220 m (720 ft). It is also the world’s second-longest river, after the Amazon River, and the second-largest river in Africa, after the Nile. The Upper Congo is the section of the river between the Stanley Pool and Lake Tumba.<\/p>\n

The upper Congo River is the stretch of the Congo River that flows through the Congo Basin in central Africa. The Congo Basin is the second largest rainforest in the world, after the Amazon Basin, and the Congo River is the second longest river in Africa, after the Nile.<\/p>\n

What is above the Congo? <\/h2>\n

The Republic of the Congo is a country located in central Africa. It is bounded to the northwest by Cameroon, to the north by the Central African Republic, to the east and south by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the southwest by the Angolan exclave of Cabinda, and to the west by Gabon. The capital city of the Republic of the Congo is Brazzaville. The official languages of the Republic of the Congo are French and Lingala.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is home to six national parks, all of which are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. They include Garamba, near the South Sudanese border; Virunga, north of Lake Edward in the Virunga Mountains; Maiko, west of Lake Edward; Kahuzi-Biega, north of Bukavu; Upemba, north of the Manika Plateau; Salonga, in the central Congo River basin; and Kundelungu, northeast of Lubumbashi near the Zambian border.<\/p>\n
