The Congo River is the deepest river in the world and has an average depth of around 700 feet. It is also the second longest river in Africa, after the Nile. The river has a number of rapids and waterfalls, as well as a large number of islands.

The Congo River has a mean discharge of 41,200 m3/s, making it the world’s second largest river by discharge (after the Amazon). The Congo’s discharge at its mouth ranges from 23,000 to 75,000 m3/s, with an average of 41,000 m3/s.

Is the Congo river a meandering river?

The Congo River is one of the world’s longest and laziest rivers, meandering gently through Central Africa without ever dropping more than a foot per mile. The flow is remarkably constant, because the river’s vast length means that somewhere in the Congo basin is having its rainy season year-round.

The Congo River estuary is micro-tidal, with a tidal range varying between 19 m during spring tides and 03 m during neap tides at the river mouth, near Banana (see Fig. 1). The average tidal range is about 12 m. The tidal regime is mixed, with a diurnal inequality (amplitude: 1.5 m) during neap tides, and a semidiurnal inequality during spring tides. The mean tide level is about 1 m above the mean sea level. The tidal currents are weak and variable, with a maximum velocity of about 1 m/s. The current direction is mainly determined by the river discharge.
