The Congo River is a major river in Africa, and is the second longest river in the continent. Measured along with its main tributary, the Lualaba River, the Congo River has a total length of 4,370 km (2,715 mi). It is the only major river to cross the Equator twice. The Congo River is also known by its other name, the Zaire River.<\/p>\n

The Chambeshi River is the Congo River’s true origin, according to some. It has its origins in the highlands of northeastern Zambia, about 300 miles upriver from where the Chambeshi and Lualaba rivers meet near the borders of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n
