There are many reasons why the Yellow River is yellow. One reason is that the water contains a high amount of sediment, which gives the water its yellow color. The sediment is mostly made up of silt and clay, which is carried down from the mountains by the river. The sediment will eventually settle to the bottom of the river, making the water more clear. However, during times of heavy rain or flooding, the sediment will be carried downstream, making the water appear more yellow.

The Yellow River is yellow because it contains high levels of suspended sediment. The sediment is produced by the erosion of rocks on the river’s banks and is carried along by the river’s currents. The high levels of sediment give the water its yellow hue.

The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is a hydroelectric gravity dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China. The Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW). In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh), holding back a reservoir of water 463 to 662 feet (141 to 202 m) deep.

Sediment in rivers is typically in small, fine grains, which allows it to travel a long distance with minimal friction. The large amount of sediment is what gives the river its yellow colour.
