Tools and Materials Needed

Building a Mississippi river boat requires special materials and tools. Before beginning the project, one should acquire the following supplies: wood of the desired type, saws, drill, screws, kayak paddles, waterproof and rustproof paint, polyurethane sealant, pulleys and ropes, marine-grade plywood, rocking oar locks, and hardware.

Steps Involved

Cutting the Pieces

This is the first step of the project. Use large saws to cut the wood into pieces. Cut 8″ wide planks at the desired length, which should be equal to the beam or the width of the boat. The pieces, when arranged together, should look like windows, the sides of house frames, or the frame of a kayak. Take extra care so that the pieces fit perfectly.

Sawbeveling the Sides

To join the pieces together, the edges must be beveled. Use a miter saw to sawbevel the sides of the pieces. Place the pieces together and make sure the edges fit tightly.

Joining the Pieces

Using screws, drill the pieces together. Make sure that the pieces are firmly secured. It is recommended to use waterproof glue in between the pieces.
