The Yellow River Game Ranch was a popular tourist destination in Georgia, known for its resident animals. In December of 2018, the ranch closed its doors and the animals were re-homed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Some of the animals, including the bison, pigs, vultures, turtles and bears, were cared for by dedicated volunteers.

The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District is a special district of the County of San Bernardino. The district owns the zoo, the facilities and the animals. County employees are hired for animal care, grounds keepers, maintenance, education and administration.

It is outrageous that the CEO and owner of a nonprofit pseudo-sanctuary would take a payout of over $1.6 million dollars, claiming that it was for work performed from 1995-2013. This is an irresponsible use of funds that could have gone towards the care of the tigers at the sanctuary. It is shameful that Brian Werner would take advantage of his position in this way.
